Episode One: You Always Wanted More Than I could Give
sound sculpture,
carbon fibre rods, soil, wind machine
size: 100 cm x 200 cm x 50 cm
A field of carbon fibre rods planted in the soil and excited by sudden blows of air coming from an unknown source. Their sound, similar to aeolian harp, saturates the surroundings. It reverberates in the space for a few moments before dissolving into silence and the stillness of the sticks – until the next blow. It’s a poetic response to the ongoing deforestation conducted in different parts of the world. Carbon fibre is a newly-discovered wonder broadly used in various industries but without a clear method of recycling. Here the ultra-light, flexible and durable rods simulate the movement of the trees in the wind.
